Benefits of the Control room

The benefits of setting up a control room design are:

  1. Save Time and Money

We all recognize the value of company time. However, it cannot be spent entirely on building control room solutions. Getting help from somewhere else can result in better outcomes for your control room, but it can also save you time figuring things out. With more minds working together, you can achieve a lot more in less time, allowing you to spend your valuable time where it’s most required.

  1. Improve communication.

The higher the importance of information in a control room, the more vital it is. Similarly, every modern control room design must have an ergonomic connection for various devices placed at the operator’s fingertips.

 3.  Ergonomics/human factors

To limit the incidence of human error due to control room defects, operators should demonstrate that sufficient human factors considerations were given to the control room design, commissioning, and operation of control rooms under normal and abnormal plant operating situations. The following paragraphs detail the considerations to be made.

A: Maintenance

  • Adequate access should be granted to prevent unintentional equipment use during repair.
  • To avoid the risk of human mistakes, behind-the-panel equipment should be properly tagged

B. Layout

  • A suitable task analysis approach, such as link analysis or hierarchical task analysis, should be used to design the control room.
  • If several control rooms are connected to the same system, they should have a comparable design to provide consistency.
  • During the design phase, operational linkages between control room personnel, such as communications and lines of sight, should be considered.

C: Human-Machine Interaction (HMI)

Over and under-arousal should be avoided when it comes to mental effort. Tasks with a low or high degree of mental effort should be done for a short period. Both of these extremes will increase the chances of the system being harmed by human mistakes. The MMI’s design should be based on a thorough task analysis.

General principles of control room Design

The following are two general principles of control room design that should be considered while starting your firm:

  • The control room design and the positioning of panels, VDUs, and other equipment guarantee optimal ergonomic plant operation in both standard and emergencies.
  • The adequacy of the control room design to resist probable significant risks events.
